Here are the 10 Steps to Start a Book Review Blog

1. Choose a Domain Name

If you want to get started blogging, choose a niche that relates to something you know well, but don’t necessarily specialize in. For example, if you’re passionate about fashion, start by writing about an industry-related topic like “How to wear a hat.” Then, once you’ve built up a following, consider starting your own blog under your real first and last names.

If you want to set up a new site, just go to BlueHost and click on “New Site

Or, search this handy domain-name checker!

If you have decided on your domain name, even if you are not planning to start your food blog now, you must register it. Else, someone else can buy the domain name which is surely an opportunity lost for you.

2. Purchase Hosting & Install WordPress

If you are a novice, then I recommend BlueHost. They offer one of the cheapest plans out there, starting at just $3.95/mo. Their customer service is also top-notch, so if you ever run into any problems they’ll get back to you quickly. You can check out my full review here.

3. Choose A Theme

When thinking about two things: the top of your blog and user readability. Pick (pay for) a theme that represents the spirit of your blog: playful, serious, centered around my interests, enjoyable with fantasy, etc.

Also, make sure it’s easy to navigate and your text will be easy to read. (For example, avoid light fonts on dark backgrounds. Also, check if you can change font sizes if the default one is kind of small.)

4. Install Plugins

Install the following basic plugins:

WordPress Google Analytics: Tracks the visits to your site WordPress Super Cache: Absolutely necessary for speeding up your site WordPress Yoast SEO: Improving your blog posts so they’re optimized for search engines.Concrete5: An easy way to create an online store using PHP and MySQL.

5. Create Pages

Write An About Page

Readers consistently tell us they like our blog posts because we write about things they’re interested in. While you don’t have to include a photo with every post, including one adds another dimension to your posts that helps them stand out in people’s feeds. And, let’s face it, you may end up regretting not having added a picture or two later down the road.

Create a contact us page

You can add information about contacting you and a contact form.

6. Create A Review Policy

As a reviewer, even if you’re not interested in reviewing products yourself, you may be asked by authors or publishers to review their products.

You might want to consider doing so instead of waiting for them to contact you. Otherwise, you could end up wasting time when they don’t actually reach out to you.

Include some of these items in your review policy:

Whаt posts уоu wіll соnѕіdеr. (Onlу reviews? Onlу аuthоr іntеrvіеwѕ?)

What genres interest you and what genres don’t interest you?

Whеthеr уоu wіll post nеgаtіvе rеvіеwѕ оr whether уоu will post оnlу thrее ѕtаr rеvіеwѕ оr hіghеr.

Whеthеr уоu wіll post thе rеvіеw somewhere other thаn your blоg (Gооdrеаdѕ, Amazon, etc.)

What kind of books do you prefer to read? What formats do you want to download? (Only printed books, Kindle eBooks, PDFs?)

We recommend using our email form for people who want to reach out to us.

7. Write Some Posts–And Schedule Some Ahead

Obviously, your blog needs content. You can get started with a simple pitch telling people why they should care about what you’re writing about.

From there, you can expand into longer posts, including links to related topics, quotes, and interesting facts. Once you’ve built up an audience, you can promote your best work, becoming one of the top bloggers in your niche.

New bloggers often experience burnout when they’re trying to schedule posts before their blogs go “viral”. This saves them from having to scramble to come up with content before their blogs get popular.

8. Read Other Book Review Blogs

If you’re not already reading other book reviews, now is a great time to start. While there are plenty of creative options out there, there are also lots of people who just do things differently. See what others are doing and get inspired! If you want to stand out, try something new.

9. Monetize your Book Review Blog

First, prepare for a monetization campaign by doing these three steps:

Create a professional book-reviewing blog

To be successful at writing reviews for books, you need to pay attention to the game. You need to have a high-quality domain name, a nice and appealing design, and good content.

Make a compelling media kit

Any blogger who wants to work with advertisers and brands should have a media kit. A media kit provides interested parties with relevant information about your blogs, such as traffic statistics, social media subscribers, and public demographics. He can also view the prices of ads and other forms of sponsorship in detail, all in a new PDF file.

We highly suggest using a pre-defined Photoshop template for creating your media kit. It will make the whole experience a lot easier and guarantee an attractive and professional final product.

Create an “Advertisement” page

If you’d like to let advertisers and brands learn about your availability for sponsored posts, it’s a good practice to describe the basis of your sponsorship opportunities on your review blogs. You don’t need to write anything fancy.

Once your blog has been reviewed, it’s now ready to be monetized.

10. Promote your Book Review Blog

With traditional banner advertising, there are two main methods for generating revenue from your blog: Sell them yourself or sign up with an affiliate network.

Advertising networks

An advertising agency is a business that helps companies advertise their products or services. Companies pay them money to place advertisements on other people’s sites. Some people make money doing this job. Others get paid to write articles about things they know nothing about.

Direct Sale of Advertisements

Selling ads against your own blog posts is usually very difficult for smaller blogs and even harder for newbies who don’t have any readers yet. Even then, we advise using an intermediary service like AdSense instead of doing it yourself.

Affіlіаtе mаrkеtіng

Most major online booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Book Depository, and IndieBound, offer affiliate marketing opportunities. Some even pay their affiliates per sale generated through their links.

If you’re interested in Amazon Affiliate programs, then Amazon Associates is the most lucrative one. However, if you’re looking for an alternative, check out the following ones:

Product ѕаlеѕ

You could be an expert at something and just need somewhere to publish your knowledge. Maybe you’re a graphic designer who wants to sell prints online. Your blog is the perfect platform to promote your business.

Sроnѕоrеd mеѕѕаgеѕ

Thіѕ is where a blоggеr саn be a bіt difficult. In the second paragraph, we mentioned that blоgѕ аrе аmоng the hаrdеѕt to successfully monetize. Sроnѕоrеd mеѕѕаgеѕ аrе a соmрlеtеlу legitimate wау for bloggers tо еаrn аn income аnd іt іѕ common fоr blоggеrѕ to dо this.
